PetMeds® Partner Pet Airways Helps Offer Pets a Flight to Freedom for Thanksgiving

On Thanksgiving, November 26, 2009, over 60 dogs were rescued from puppy mills and began their journey to a new home in New York with the help of PetMeds® partner Pet Airways and Best Friends Animal Society. The pets were driven to the Pet Airway’s Pet Lounge in Chicago’s Midway Airport by Best Friends Animal Society where they enjoyed a Thanksgiving dinner, love, and play time with volunteers. After a night’s rest, the pets were flown on Friday morning to Pet Airways’ Pet Lounge in New York’s Farmingdale Airport. Once they arrived, a local shelter took them in to make them available for adoption in the area.

Pet Airways offers pet parents peace of mind when traveling because unlike commercial flights, pets fly in the main cabin as opposed to cargo. In addition, all Pet Airways flights are accompanied with a Pet Attendant to watch over their furry travelers to ensure they are safe and comfortable during the duration of the flight. As a partner and supporter of Pet Airways’ efforts to help pets travel safely, 1-800-PetMeds also offers a 10% discount to all Pet Airways customers.

Since its introduction into the pet industry, Pet Airways has made headlines on popular media outlets including FOX News, CNN.com, BBC Online, and Fast Company. The airline was also featured on Animal Planet’s “Your Pet Wants This” program. Although the rescue flight created additional headlines for Pet Airways, the practice of providing space on their planes for rescued pets is already part of their Corporate Responsibility Policy.
